Copyright is a set of exclusive rights granted to the author or creator of an original work, including the right to copy, distribute and adapt the work. All uses require permission. In most jurisdictions, copyright does not need to be registered, but marked or stated on the original work. Originally applied to copying of books, today it covers a wide range of works, including maps, sheet music, dramatic works, paintings, photographs, sound recordings, motion pictures and computer programs.
Because copyright registration is not mandatory, some people may disregard the importance of copyright protection. GAI can be counted on to be vigilant in protecting clients’ expression of their ideas.
